FOUNDER

Stays With Lola was founded from a deep love of hospitality, connection and meaningful travel. Originally from New York City, Katherine (Khat) first discovered her passion for hosting while managing Airbnb stays in NYC, where she realised what inspired her most wasn’t simply providing accommodation — it was creating experiences that felt personal, seamless, welcoming and deeply connected to place. After moving to Uluwatu, Bali, Khat and her husband John, a known local builder who founded Bali Construction, began building homes and hosting guests organically along the way. As their life on the island evolved, so too did the vision for Stays With Lola — a boutique hospitality and villa management brand grounded in thoughtful care, a meticulously curated, design-led villa portfolio and genuine human connection. John’s work helped shape the brand’s appreciation for architecture, craftsmanship and design integrity, while Khat led the guest experience and heart behind the business.

DEEPLY CONNECTED TO THE COMMUNITY

Deeply connected to the Uluwatu community, Stays With Lola has built a strong reputation for supporting local businesses, championing local talent and approaching their work with care and respect for Balinese culture, people and environment. That community-minded spirit continues to shape the way the brand operates today. The name “Lola” — the Tagalog word for grandmother — is a tribute to Khat’s heritage and the women who helped shape the business in its early days. 

When there were only a handful of homes, Khat’s “Grammy” would prepare the daily Canang Sari offerings for each villa, bringing warmth, humour and connection into every space. Guests often described her as the highlight of their stay. Her spirit — genuine care, local knowledge and a big belly laugh — remains deeply woven into the brand today. Proudly female-led and operated, Stays With Lola has grown into a curated collection of design-led villas and soulful stays that feel effortless, personal and culturally connected — creating the kind of experience guests carry with them long after they leave.
